About Our Farm

Who We Are

We are a small transitional farm in south east Oklahoma City. We raise free-range landrace chickens for eggs and meat, guineas, geese, and heritage breed Shetland Sheep.

We farm firstly for our own use, but usually have eggs for barter or sale. I offer sheep shearing services and usually have raw or processed wool for sale. From Spring to Summer, I hatch guinea keets, chicks and goslings.

In the coming years, I plan to have mushrooms and processed wool on hand, and build a sustainable production of pastured poultry for meat. As our flock grows, we will have starter flock and butcher lamb available.

Why Sandburrs?

I was going to call it Brown Recluse Ranch due to the hordes we seem to have, but I doubt readers would have made it this far!

When we moved in, like many semi-rural properties around Oklahoma City, the owners looked at the land as a giant lawn, chopping the Bermuda down to nubs in the summer, and overgrazing the back pasture with an unused horse.  The only healthy growth on the property were sandburs (which enjoyed having their competition mowed to nubs) and ragweed.
Since we free-range our chickens, spraying isn’t an option — I’m hoping to turn all this lawn into pasture through seeding cover crops and layering manure through rotational grazing. The acres are growing healthy again, but the sandburrs have taken off — slowly the burrs are retreating under crimson clover and native grasses, but we have a long way to go before we rest.

The burrs are not without blessings though. Whenever we get stuck, they should remind us of the curse on the Earth due to man’s rebellion and sin, and remind us of the hope we have in Christ who is faithful to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9)
